[edit] History
Cadena SER was created in 1926 when Radio Madrid and Radio Barcelona merged. Since then, Cadena SER has covered some of the most important events in the Spanish and international history (Flight of the Plus Ultra across the Atlantic ocean, murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, ...) Cadena SER also played a very important role, although controversial at times, in the Spanish transition to democracy and the terrorist attacks of the 11-M.
[edit] Politics
Cadena SER, alongside with the other Grupo Prisa media, is considered to be close to the PSOE, the main Spanish left-wing political party. Because of this, there have been many disputes with the other main radio network in Spain, Cadena COPE, which is owned by the Spanish Catholic episcopal power and is aligned with the PP, the main right-wing political party in Spain.
[edit] Sports
Cadena SER is also leader in covering sports. Cadena SER covers completely all La Liga matches, the UEFA Champions League games where a Spanish team is playing and the matches of Spain. The main sport programs are Carrusel Deportivo and El Larguero.
