An inscription above the entrance to the La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, Cuba. Photo taken July 2004 by glasperlenspiel. It reads: Reigning in the Spains his Catholic Majesty Don Carlos III, being governor, and Captain-General of this island, the Count Riola Grande of Spain Lieutenant General, of the Royal Armies &, this Castle of San Carlos was begun in the year MDCCLXIII, was continued while Don Antonio Bucareli y Ursua governed this island, Lieutenant General of the Royal Armies &, was finished in the government of the Marquis de la Torre, Field Marshal of the Royal Armies & year of MDCCLXXIV, under the direction of Field Marshal and Engineer Director of the Royal Armies, Don Silvestre Abarca.
