Caborca, Sonora

Caborca is a city and municipality located in the northwestern part of the state of Sonora in Mexico. The city is serves as municipal seat of the municipality, and lies at the extreme eastern side of the municipality. As of the 2005 census the city had a population of 52,330, while the municipality had 70,113 inhabitants. The city is the eighth largest in population in the state of Sonora. The municipality is very large geographically, with an areal extent of 10,721.84 km² (4,139.7 sq mi), the third-largest municipality in area in the state, as well as one of the larger ones in all of Mexico, although it is very thinly populated. The largest community outside of the city of Caborca is called La Y Griega, with a population of 2,979 persons.
