Cabeza de Baca Family
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cabeza de Baca family of New Mexico originated with Luis María Cabeza de Baca. He was born as Luis María Baca in Santa Fe on 26 October 1753. He was the eldest son of Juan Antonio Baca and María Romero. Luis María was married three separate times and had more than 20 children. Although the Cabeza de Baca family originated out of the Baca Family, it is usually considered to be a separate family due to the different surname. Cabeza de Baca family members often will go by the surnames "C. de Baca", "de Baca" or even "Baca."

[edit] Luis María's family
Luis María married his first wife María Josefa López on 24 November 1777 while serving as a soldier in the Santa Fe garrison. María Josefa died on 2 April 1797. After his first wife's death, he married Ana Maia Sánchez on 11 April 1798. She was a member of Corporal Román Sánchez's household. Luis María was widowed again, and in 1810 he married María Encarnacion Lucero, the daughter of Gaspar Anontio Lucero and Maria Francisca Salas of Jémez.
