Cabell Midland High School

Cabell Midland High School is located in Ona, West Virginia. Cabell Midland is a four year high school which serves grades Freshmen,Sophmores,Juniors,& Seniors (9th-12th). The school's name is derived from two different sources. The first "Cabell" for the county in which it's located, The second "Midland" for the famous Midland trail which once laid from Norfolk, Virginia to Los Angeles, Califonia. The majority of the students come from the eastern part of Cabell County. CMHS was constructed in 1994, because of the consolidation of Barboursville High School and Milton High School. CMHS total student body population ranges from 1800-2000. The school is very large with extensive athlethic facilities. CMHS has several sports teams which include football, basketball, cross country, track, swimming, wrestling, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and golf. CMHS has had extreme success with the track team, and cross country teams who usually place in the top 10 in the state and they have won the state several times in both sports. Cabell Midland won the state tournament in boy's basketball in 2002. The post 2002 era has been dominated by intra-county rival Huntington High School, which is currently ranked as high as #3 in national polls. Midland won the state tournament in baseball in 2003 and has been to finals and semi-finals in the years following. The baseball team is currently ranked #3 in WV. The CMHS softball program has dominated its WV competition. The softball team has won multiple state champoinships and is recognized as the elite program in the state of West Virginia. CMHS offers many AP courses and other electives such as Driver's Education, Digital Imaging, Guitar classes, & more..along with many other classes to choose from.

CMHS lacks racial diversity even though the school has close to 2000 students. 98% of the student body is white. Music & Skateboarding has a huge influence on the school's student body. CMHS has many opputunities for the student body to make friends and socialize with others with wide variety of clubs: Academic Team, FFA, Pep Club,Archery Club, French Honorary, Physics Honorary, Art Honorary, Hacky Sack Club, Principal Advisory, Band Honors Program, Quill & Scroll, Box Office Review, HOSA, Retro Club, Chamber Choir, HSTA, Show Choir, College Success, JROTC, Spirit Club, Computer Club, Key Club, Student Council, Dance Team, Latin Honorary, Spanish Honorary, Drauma Club, Leo Club, Teenage Republicans, DDR/Pump It Up, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honorary, Expression Club, Orchestra, Young Democrats, FBLA, Ophelia Club, MU Alpha Theta, FCA, Peer Counselors, Multi-Cultural Club, FCCLA and the Debate Club.
