Côte de Beaune
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Côte de Beaune area lies at the southern end of the Côte d'Or, the main area of Burgundy wine production. It lies at the western edge of the plain of the valley of the river Saône, around the town of Beaune. To the north is the Côte de Nuits and to the south, on the other side of the River Dheune, lies the Côte Chalonnaise.
The Côte de Beaune's wine-producing communes are from the north, Pernand-Vergelesses, Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chorey-lès-Beaune, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Saint Romain, Monthélie, Auxey-Duresses, Meursault, Saint Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay. Some of these villages produce predominantly red wine, from the pinot noir grape (for example, Beaune), while others, such as Meursault, specialise in white wine made from the chardonnay grape.
