Câmara Municipal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Câmara Municipal (pron. IPA: ['kɐmɐɾɐ munisi'paɫ], literally, Municipal Chamber, is the executive body of a municipality in Portugal.
[edit] Election
Its members (vereadores, aldermen) are elected, serve year-round and are paid. The president of a Municipal Chamber is the candidate for that body who had received the most votes. Each Municipal Chamber has a council, composed of representatives from a variety of organizations, which serve as a consultative body. The size of these municipal bodies is determined by the number of registered voters within the municipality.
The term can also refer to the building where the Municipal Chamber offices are located, i.e., the City Hall.
