From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Byron Nuclear Generating Station is a nuclear power plant located in Ogle County, Illinois providing electricty to Northern Illinois and the city of Chicago. The facility was constructed by Babcock and Wilcox and has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors, unit 1 and unit 2, which first began operation in September 1985 and August 1987 respectively.[1] The plant was built for Commonwealth Edison and is currently owned and operated by Exelon Corporation. Byron and its sister plant in Braidwood, Illinois are based on the same engineering design (though there are some differences between the plants). |
