Bypass may refer to:

  • In road construction, bypass route, a road or highway that goes around a more congested or problem area.
  • In surgery, bypass, creating an alternate route for blood flow or food, see bypass surgery.
  • In computing, a "bypass" is circumventing security features in hacking, or taking a different approach to an issue in troubleshooting, such as disabling startup programs via MSConfig in Microsoft Windows.
  • In telecommunications, bypass, a term used in telecommunications.
  • In diving, bypass, a valve in rebreathers to bypass the flow rate control valve.
  • In aircraft engines, bypass duct, a passage in turbofan aircraft engine that allows airflow to bypass the engine core.
  • In film processing, bleach bypass, an optical effect that gives images reduced saturation, an increased contrast, and an overall pastel look.
  • In effects units, bypass is a switch that allows to "turn off" sound processing and get "dry", unprocessed sound in output.
