Buttermere, Wiltshire

Buttermere is a tiny village and civil parish at the eastern edge of the English county of Wiltshire. It stands above the steep escarpment of Ham Hill, and at 250 metres above sea level it is the highest village in Wiltshire and probably the highest in Wessex.

Buttermere is a civil parish governed by a parish meeting, a form of governance only adopted for very small parishes. It falls within the areas of Kennet District Council and Wiltshire County Council. The parish meeting and both councils are responsible for different aspects of local government.
In the 2002 census, the parish had a population of 38.
