Butterfly Boucher

Butterfly Boucher (IPA pronunciation: [bɑʊtʃɚ]) is an Australian singer/songwriter.

Boucher, born June 2, 1979, is the middle child of seven daughters. The name "Butterfly" was a suggestion from a friend of the family. Her mother didn't initially like the name but kept seeing butterflies in pictures, on clothing, etc. before the birth. In later years, Butterfly's sister had a band, The Mercy Bell, in which Butterfly played bass guitar.^[1] Her debut album, Flutterby, was released in 2003, and in 2004 and 2005, Boucher toured the United States and Europe, opening for Barenaked Ladies, and later for Sarah McLachlan on her Afterglow arena tour.

Butterfly released her first single of the album, "I Can't Make Me," in the UK first and later released "Another White Dash".

Butterfly currently resides in the United States. A second album, tentatively titled Scary Fragile,^[2] is projected to be released in summer 2007.^[3] The single "A Bitter Song" from the album, first featured on an episode of the television series Grey's Anatomy, is scheduled to be released as an iTunes download on February 27.^[4]

Butterfly Boucher recorded music for a couple projects in 2004. The soundtrack for the film Shrek 2, released in May, featured a duet by Boucher and David Bowie of Bowie's song "Changes". Boucher also performed the song "I'm Different", written by Gerry Holmes, on the second For the Kids album, For the Kids Too!, released October 19.

Butterfly's own songs have also been featured on various television programs. From Flutterby, "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" was used in the antepenultimate episode of British teen program As If.[1] Short-lived ABC series "The Days" used "Life is Short" as its opening theme.[2]

Fantasy television series Charmed also featured songs from Flutterby. "Life is Short" was used in the episode "Spin City", and the episode Show Ghouls features a version of Flutterby song "I Can't Make Me" remixed by Chris Lord-Alge, which is later included in soundtrack album Charmed: The Book of Shadows.

Hit television series Grey's Anatomy later featured both "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" and "Life is Short" in its first season in 2005, and debuted "A Bitter Song" from the yet-unreleased album Scary Fragile in the third season episode "Drowning On Dry Land" in 2007.

Boucher sings harmony on the song "Not Enough Night," by David Poe.^{[citation needed]}
