[edit] The companies built from the docks

The Taff Vale Railway was built to transport coal from the Valleys to the docks. It's headquarters are the delict building in Cardiff Bay railway station. The building was then turned into a railway heritage centre in 1979 by the Butetown Historic Railway Society and by 1994 started to run steam hauled passenger services up 500m of track. However, due to the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation had no interest in a railway, the society changed to the Vale of Glamorgan Railway and finally moved from the site in 1997 to Barry Island railway station.
