[edit] Re: Mike North

Hi! I removed the sprotect tag on this article because it was not protected. Despite it not being protected it has not been edited by an anon in the last 5 days. I have added it to my watchlist, and I will protect it if necessary. Thanks, —JeremyA 02:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I'm still watching this article. So far you, or someone else has removed, vandalism before I see it. Anyway, I noticed in your last edit summary that you asked why protection was removed. The answer is simple—protection of articles is always considered temporary, and is used as a last resort. There are very few pages on Wikipedia that have long-term protection; these are usually high visability pages, such as the Main Page, or pages that attract constant vandalism many times a day, such as the George W. Bush article. The vandalism to the Mike North article has, at its worst occurred twice in one day, and is mostly just a couple of times a week. This low level of vandalism is best treated by having users such as you and I watch the article and revert it where necessary. If a particular bout of vandalism becomes unmanagable, short-tem semi-protection may be used, as happened with this article from September 1–10, but you should not expect permanent protection of this or any other article. —JeremyA 16:27, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
