Burwash was the name of a provincial prison village in Ontario, Canada, just south of Sudbury. The prison opened in 1914 and closed in 1974. It was in an isolated area with over 80,000 acres (320 kmĀ²) of land, so a village was required for the guards, etc. that worked at the prison farm. The village housed anywhere up to about 1000 residents. It boasted a school, a church, a post office, a barber shop, a tailor shop and a shoe repair shop. There was also a food store where the meat was supplied by the farm, the bread was baked at the prison bakery, etc. The milk was delivered to the door by horse & wagon.
