Burning Flames

From Antigua and Barbuda, this band represents the epitome of the high-energy, multiple-influenced, synthesizer-driven soca. Years of tourist gigs and being the backup band to Montserrat calypsonian Arrow laid the groundwork for their solo debut. Burning Flames has totally dominated the Antigua Carnival from 1985 to now (2006). Their music is influenced by calypso, reggae, funk, zouk and just about every other music genre.

Burning Flames, A soca band made up of brothers and cousins, started out playing background for Calypso Arrow. In 1986 they broke away and formed their own band lead by the vocals of Onyan and Oungku. In 1996 Onyan left burning and formed the Baygon band. In 2006, a decade later, he rejoined Burning Flames to lead along side Krokuss aka Lord Satelite. In 2004 the death of Onika Bostic (band vocalist) in her home country Trinidad, brought tears to many Antiguan's eyes. That same year, as if by fate, then lead singer Oungku left burning flames after they had won that year's Carnival Road march with their single "De harder deh come". From his song, "Oungku too Bad-minded," it became apparent that Oungku left the Band because of some kind of controversy which was very well hidden. He left and only said it was because, The band had outgrown its members. He went on to form his own band. Red Hot Flames, with which he won the 2006 road march competition, with the single "Trouble."

During Carnival of 2005 after the death of onika bostic lead singer of the burning flames clarence "Oungku Edwards announced that he will be leaving the burning flames.his brother david Lord satalite edwards came on the the radio Observer radio to be specefic to spill the beans and announced the relaunched of a brand new Burning Flames with his brother Torraine "Onyan" Edwards who has left the band after a falling out with his brother Clarence Edwards. On the radio krokuss anounced to the world that his brother where trying to liquidate the bands assets to start a new outfit of his own call the" Red Hot Flames" (2006)Road march winners. So later that same year in 2005 Formerly Burning Flames Producer, Writer and Leader Clarence Oungku Edwards decided to do his own thing; so with his rhythm in his left hand and his music in the right, lyrics in he head, and endless fire from the fans Red Hot Flames was born. He rehired everybody (except the bass man Krokuss his brother) to retain that authentic Burning Flames sound. The brand new second hand band. While krokuss and Onyan relaunched thee burning flames which was unsuccesful in winning the road march which was won by the Red Hot Flames which started a feud on the road between both sides of the family with family menmbers from the burning Flames side of the family throwing bottles on the the red hot flames trolley which nearly started a fight.The Burning Flames side was alleging that Red Hot Flames Paid off the other bands and hi fi's and that why their music did not get any play on the road of Antigua Carnival 2006
