Burnbank

Burnbank is a district of Hamilton that sits on the border of Blantyre.

Mining and carpet making were traditional industries in the area.

Burnbank was the birthplace of legendary football manager Jock Stein, and former Scotland international footballer Jim Bett who also played for Rangers and Aberdeen.

1960s World Flyweight Boxing Chamion, Walter McGowan, was also born in Burnbank, and used old Udston Hospital as a training base.
