Burke is a town in Caledonia County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2000 census. The town contains the villages of East Burke, West Burke and Burke Hollow.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 88.2 km² (34.1 mi²). 88.2 km² (34.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.03% is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,571 people, 641 households, and 455 families residing in the town. The population density was 17.8/km² (46.1/mi²). There were 892 housing units at an average density of 10.1/km² (26.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.14% White, 0.25% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.
There were 641 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 21.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 108.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $35,268, and the median income for a family was $41,563. Males had a median income of $28,977 versus $19,509 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,697. About 11.7% of families and 13.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.0% of those under age 18 and 13.8% of those age 65 or over.

The town of Burke contains Burke Mountain, which features an alpine ski resort. East Burke is home to the Kingdom Trails (Association), which is responsible for the renowned collection of mountain biking trails in the town. Portions of these trails are open to cross-country skiers in the winter.
