Recently the Park has become endangered. Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Commission has agreed to lease at least 19 acres of the park which includes the picnic grove, playground, and golf vicilities. Local residents continue to fight to preserve the park since the original intention of Burholme Park's original resident, Robert Ryers had willed the land and the estate to the citizens of Philadelphia to be used as a park and library "Forever". The City intends to reverse this will in the Orphans Court system. Meanwhile, Traffic studies are planned.
