Burgess Whitehead

Burgess Urquhart "Whitey" Whitehead (b. June 29, 1910 - d. November 25, 1993) was a Major League Baseball player born in Tarboro, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1933, playing primarily second base. He was with the Cardinals until 1935, then played with the New York Giants (1936-1941), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1946). He was selected to play in Major League Baseball's All-Star Game in 1935 and 1937, and led the National League in fielding percentage for second basemen (.974) in 1937.

Whitehead was married to the former Ruth Madre Lyon, and they had two children. He died of a heart attack in Windsor, North Carolina.
