Burdwan Municipal High School is one of the oldest schools in India, Burdwan Municipal High School was established in 1883 by the efforts of Bardhaman Municipal Authority.

Established in 1883, the school has witnessed array of changes and modifications. Initially the school was started in a different site near the present site.It has changed its location several times. However, to accommodate the increasing number of students,soon a permanent building was built.

The school has the following structures:

• The West wing.
• The double-storeyed main building, along with the annexe. This wing houses the office of the headmaster.
• The new primary school block (built about 15 years back).
• The Teachers' block.
• The quarters of the resident and other stuff.
• A large playing field - football ground.
• A basket ball court.
• Several smaller playing fields -for cricket.
• Cycle stand.

This school is a higher secondary school(from class 1 to 12).

The curriculum is as per "West Bengal Board of Secondary Education"(till class 10) and "West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education" (Class 11 and 12).

The common curriculum is followed till class 10. In class 11 and 12, there are 3 streams: Science, Commerce and Arts.
