Bunten (its name was changed to Teiten, Shin-Bunten and then Nitten), the Ministry of Education Fine Arts Exhibition, was founded in 1907 in Japan. It became the ultimate authority in art. Works submitted were exhibited in three categories: Japanese painting nihonga, Western painting and sculpture.
