Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jhansi (also known as BIET Jhansi) is one of the most reputed engineering colleges in Uttar Pradesh, India under the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). It was founded in 1989 and the first batch graduated in the year 1993. It is fully funded by the UP state government.
As of 2006, Prof. Shailendra Awasthi is the director of BIET.

BIET is located in the historical city of Jhansi in the Bundelkhand region of North India. The institute's campus is located around 12 kilometers from the Railway Station, on the Jhansi-Kanpur State Highway.
The institute admits students from all over India through the prestigious Common Entrance Test known as UPTU-SEE (Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination).

The institute offers B.Tech. (Bachelor of Technology) courses in the following disciplines:
- Chemical Engineering (CH)
- Civil Engineering (CE)
- Computer Science and Engineering (CS)
- Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)
- Information Technology (IT)
- Mechanical Engineering (ME)
Apart from the under-graduate courses, the institute also offers Masters in Computer Application (MCA) in association with Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The CE, CS and ME branches of the institute have been accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation). The CS and ME branches have been accredited for a period of three years, starting 2004, whereas the CE branch has been accredited for a period of five years.

The institute is affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). Prior to the formation of UPTU, the institute was affiliated to Bundelkhand University, Jhansi for the award of B.Tech. degree.
[edit] Infrastructure
The institute is fully residential and it has four boys' hostels (named Saket, Panchvati, Vrindavan, Jaibharat) and two girls' hostel (named Yashodhara, Vasundhara) along with houses for teachers and other staff. It has a bank (Central Bank of India branch), a post office, a dispensary, a guest house and a central play ground among other facilities. The Administrative block has the Director Office and the Library (on the first floor). Each department has its own building which houses the lecture halls and respective labs.

The institute has a high placement record, specially in terms of software companies. Most of the final year students are already placed in reputed companies across India before the completion of their degree course.

[edit] Bencolites
The institute was formerly known as Bundelkhand Engineering College. BENCOL is an acronym for Bundelkhand ENgineering COLlege. Hence the term Bencolites refers to the students (current and graduated) of the institute. Though BENCOL was formally changed to BIET (in around 1994-1995), the term Bencolites is still used widely and happily by all the alumni.
