Bumba Meu Boi

Bumba Meu Boi is a popular dance in Northeast Brazil. It tells the story of the death and resurrection of an ox.

The "BUMBA-MEU-BOI" is one of the most beautiful demonstrations of braziliam folklore beauty.

The fancies are true wonders in brightness and creativity, joining the tradition and modernity in a perfect harmony. And they are confectioned by people of the proper community and components of the group.

At the end of the Christmas commemorations, the groups of "BOI" (“ox” in English), as they are called, initiate the meetings that last until the April end. In these meeting they prepare scripts, music and choreographies. In May, the assays start, that go up to June, 13, The Saint Antonio’s Day. The presentation only happens in the baptism of the group that occurs in the eve of The Saint John’s Day 23. Then, it initiates a great party without hour to finish. In Day 28, eve of Saint Peter's Day, another party night and in the eve of The Saint Marçal’s Day, June, 30, all are congregated for the last commemoration.
