[edit] Image Tagging Image:Nypd-highway.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Nypd-highway.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairusein|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --SCEhardT 05:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- Howdy, this is user Bullneck responding to your post about Image:Nypd-highway.jpg -- this was a photo taken by a friend of mine which he shared with me via e-mail last year. I'm not sure where exactly that places its copyright status; it was a pic he took while visiting NYC, and he doesn't run a photography business relying on copyright or anything. Which copyright status message does this case fall under? Any info would be appreciated; please feel free to reply with any info on user talk page. Thanks! Bullneck 02:00, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me about this! Even though your friend is not a professional photographer, he still owns the copyright to the picture. Just ask him if he is willing to release the picture under the GFDL, a Creative Commons license, or into the public domain. If he agrees, we can put the correct image tag with the photo and credit him as the photographer. If you need any more help with this, just let me know! -SCEhardT 02:22, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- No prob about getting back to you on this -- my friend (Tony) said it's fine to use the picture under GFDL, credited to T. Morelli. I'm going to insert this into the Image copyright section text following the instructions in the image copyright tags article you linked. Let me know if I enter it in correctly or if it needs to be changed, thanks! Bullneck 17:56, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
