Bulldog Battalion

The Bulldog Battalion is the Albuquerque High School AJROTC Unit. They were formed in 1946, and they were the first JROTC unit established in New Mexico. Currently, the unit holds the Honor Unit with Distinction Award, given to the top five percent of JROTC units in the country. They attained this award in May 2006. Currently, the Bulldog Battalion has a number of teams, including three active Color Guards (one training), one active Armed Drill Team, one active Unarmed Drill Team, one active Saber Team, one active Female PT Team, and one active Male PT Team.

The Bulldog Battalion is currently organized into a Battalion Staff and four companies (Alpha through Delta)

[edit] Color Guard
AHS AJROTC currently has three active Color Guards, with another color guard currently in training. Weapons used by the Color Guard include M1903 Springld rifles and M1 Garand rifles. The Color Guard reports to C/1SG Austin Burke, with C/SFC Santiago Paiz as XO. Current Color Guard organization consists of:
- Male Color Guard, 4-male, commanded by C/1SG Austin Burke
- Mixed Color Guard, 3-male, 1-female, commanded by C/2LT Santiago Paiz
- Female Color Guard, 4-female, commanded by (commander has switched schools and is being replaced.)
[edit] Armed Drill Team
The Armed Drill Team currently has fifteen members, and is commanded by C/SGT Adam Jaramillo. The weapons used by the Armed Drill Team are Daisy Drill Rifles, and M1903 Springfields.
[edit] Unarmed Drill Team
The unarmed Drill Team is composed of fifteen members, and is commanded by C/SSG Kaitlin Short. The team uses no weapons whatsoever, hence the name Unarmed Drill Team. The Unarmed Drill Team recently placed 4th in Exhibition at the Western Regional Drill Meet. This qualifies them for the National Championship in Orlando, Florida next year. This is the first time that a New Mexico Army JROTC unit has qualified for Nationals.
[edit] Saber Team
The Saber Team is composed entirely of members who have been on a drill team of some sort, whether it be Color Guard,Armed Drill, or Unarmed Drill. The Saber Team is currently commanded by C/1SG Andres Lopez, and consists of seven members. The team drills in Army Dress Blues, and, as the name implies, uses sabers as their weapon. Candidates for the 2007-2008 Saber Team Commander are C/SGT Phillip Duran, C/SFC Santiago Paiz, C/PV2 Domonic Caraveo, and C/1SG Austin Burke.

The Female PT Team is commanded by C/CPT Savannah Garcia. It is a physical training team composed entirely of females.
