From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bulat Abilov (Kazakh: Болат Әбілов) is a successful businessman in Kazakhstan. He was one of the cofounders of the democratic party "Ak Zhol". In recent years, he has joined the ranks of the democratic opposition to the current government in Kazakhstan. In the 2002 parliamentary elections he was removed from the ballot just days before the vote on minor technical grounds. Many voters wrote, "We’re for Abilov" on the ballot in anger. His opponent Mukhtar Tinikeev went on to win the election.
