Does anyone have some concrete information on a release date for the new album (e.g. from the mouth of the band itself or a Warner Bros. spokesperson)? Both Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 have been mentioned in different sources (but not Winter 2005, oddly enough). Utterly fantastic live show, by the way, I saw them in Memphis recently and I highly recommend catching them if you can. - Jersyko talk 00:39, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
Can we really fairly compare them to Death Cab for Cutie or Modest Mouse? Come on. I don't think so.
- I'm not really sure what you're saying. The answer, however, is yes, since they have been compared to both. All three bands are part of the "northwest sound" movement. Unreleased 'You In Reverse' songs. I caught BTS earlier this year in Boston and they played a song that wasn't released with their last album. I know there were four(4) unreleased songs they played live. A song in particular I've been craving to hear had some reggae tones, and during the chorus or the first line of different parts, he would blend his voice a guitar chord... it sounded very weird but utterly amazing. Because of their association with the Northwest sound, Built to Spill's sound has been compared quite often with Death Cab's and Modest Mouse's sounds. See this and this for examples, or parse through the rest of this google search for more. Whether this comparison is warranted or not is another story, but it should be noted in the article that the comparison is (or was) commonly made. Also, the difference between "comparison" and "influence" should be noted - the article does not say that DCFC or MM influenced BTS, on the contrary, BTS pre-dates DCFC by several years and was formed at about the same time as MM. - Jersyko talk 16:27, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
I believe Ben Folds Five could be noted as a prominent group influenced by Built to Spill. On the Ben Folds Five album, Naked Baby Pictures, a live cover of Twin Falls is included. Ben Folds writes in the liner notes that at one point they would've been content being a Built to Spill cover band.--65.241.94.2 16:28, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Personal stuff Through the grapevine i've heard that Martsch is a family man. John Richards on KEXP has alluded to this numerous times. I think a noteworthy aspect of Built to Spill's personality is there everyman quality. We should mention this, if we can do so without getting too creepy or putting Martsch's private life in the spotlight too much. Does anyone know of any good sources for this type of information?
