Bugyal

Bugyals are high altitude alpine grass lands or meadows in Uttaranchal, India. They are locally referred as 'nature’s own gardens'. They are flat and slopy carpeted with green grass and seasonal flowers. These provide an excellent grazing ground and pastures for tribal herdsman.At an elevation ranging between 3300 meters and 4000 meters, alpine meadows remain snow covered in winter. In the summer, the meadows burst into a multitude of beautiful flowers and grass. Tere are bugyals have been listed in Uttaranchal. Basins of Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Bandarpunch have extensive meadows. Bugyals have very fragile ecosystem, so, need to be properly managed.
