Bugna

Bugna (Ge'ez ቡግና būgnā, not pronounced IPA /buña/) is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. This woreda is named after the former province.

Part of the Semien Wollo Zone, Bugna is bordered on the south by Meket, on the west by the Debub Gondar Zone, on the north by the Wag Hemra Zone, and on the east by Gidan. The major city in Bugna is Lalibela.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 233,941, of whom 116,821 were males and 117,120 were females; 14,668 or 6.27% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 8.9%. With an estimated area of 2,290.00 square kilometers, Bugna has an estimated population density of 102.2 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 105.59.[1]
