[edit] Characters Who Have Become Regulars

[edit] Angel and Cordelia

Last seen leaving Sunnydale in the season three finale of Buffy ("Graduation Day, Part Two"), Angel appears in L.A. to atone for his sins and start over. In the premiere episode, "City of", he runs into Cordelia Chase at a typical Hollywood party. Cordelia was also last seen in Buffy 3.22.

[edit] Wesley Wyndam-Pryce

In Angel 1.10 "Parting Gifts", Wesley arrives in L.A. as a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding "rogue demon hunter," on the trail of a demon. Like the others, he was also seen during the season three finale of Buffy.

[edit] Spike or William the Bloody

Last seen sacrificing himself and saving the world in the series finale of Buffy (7.22 "Chosen"), Spike mysteriously appears in Wolfram & Hart through the amulet he wore during the final battle. He ends up becoming a part of Angel's team. This takes place in Angel 5.2 "Just Rewards".

[edit] Major Plot Arcs

[edit] Phone Calls (Over the Seasons)

Episodes: Buffy 4.1 "The Freshman"/ Angel 1.1 "City of"

Buffy receives a mysterious phone call in the season four premiere ("The Freshman"). It is only during the series premiere of Angel ("City Of") that viewers realize Angel was the caller.

Episode: Angel 1.21 "Blind Date"

In "Blind Date," Willow coaches Cordelia off-camera by phone on how to decipher encrypted computer files stolen from Wolfram & Hart.

[edit] Gem of Amara

Episodes: Buffy 4.3 "The Harsh Light of Day"/ Angel 1.3 "In the Dark"

In Sunnydale, Spike uncovers the Gem of Amara, a magical object which renders any vampire who wears it unkillable. After a brief scuffle, Buffy wrests the ring from him and sends it with Oz to give it to Angel. However, Spike manages to follow Oz to L.A. to get the ring back. Although he does manage to kidnap and torture Angel, he is unable to retrieve the ring, and Angel eventually destroys it.

[edit] Buffy and Angel Reunion Part One

Episodes: Angel 1.7 "Bachelor Party" / Buffy 4.8 "Pangs"/ Angel 1.8 "I Will Remember You"

At the end of Angel 1.7 "Bachelor Party" Doyle has a vision involving Buffy in danger. (Doyle recognizes Buffy because earlier in the episode he saw a picture of her that fell out of Angel's book.) Fearing for Buffy's safety, Angel returns to Sunnydale in "Pangs." While he discloses his presence to the other Scoobies, he avoids Buffy so as not to unnerve her. After helping in the battle against the Native American Avenging Spirit, he slips off into the shadows to return to L.A. It is only during the Thanksgiving dinner determinedly orchestrated by Buffy that the gang inadvertently reveals that Angel had returned. Angry that Angel did not bother to contact her, Buffy travels to L.A. in "I Will Remember You" to confront him. A chance encounter with a demon makes Angel human and gives them one day of bliss together. However, after realizing that his mortal state places Buffy's life in danger, Angel has the day reversed by the Oracles. Only Angel remembers the events that had transpired (although he later tells Cordelia and Wesley).

[edit] Faith Arc Part One

Episodes: Buffy 4.15 "This Year's Girl"/Buffy 4.16 "Who Are You"/ Angel 1.18 "Five by Five"/ Angel 1.19 "Sanctuary"/ Buffy 4.20 "The Yoko Factor"/Angel 2.1 "Judgment"

When Faith finally awakens from her coma ("This Year's Girl"), she changes bodies with Buffy, using a device left for her by the now-deceased Mayor. Living Buffy's life, however, gives Faith doubts about her own, and when Buffy eventually does win her body back ("Who Are You"), Faith flees to Los Angeles. In "Five By Five," Faith, her conscience again suppressed, is hired by Wolfram & Hart to kill Angel. Angel manages to learn of Faith's arrival through an off-camera call from Giles. At the episode's end, Faith breaks down in remorse, ready to accept Angel's help. In the next episode, "Sanctuary," Buffy comes to L.A. with the intention of warning Angel of Faith's arrival, only to find him helping her. Buffy becomes angry and the two argue over Faith's supposed redemption (while also bringing in Buffy's new boyfriend Riley), ultimately resulting in Faith turning herself in to the police and Angel telling Buffy to get out of his city. Later, in "The Yoko Factor," Angel visits Buffy in Sunnydale to apologize for their harsh parting, but manages to get into a fist fight with Riley in the process. In the end, the two simply agree they need time apart from each other's lives. In the second season opening of Angel, "Judgment", he visits Faith in jail.

[edit] Darla and Drusilla Arc

Episodes: Angel 1.22 "To Shansu in L.A."/ Buffy 5.7 "Fool for Love"/ Angel 2.7 "Darla"/ Angel 2.9 "The Trial"/ Angel 2.10 "Reunion"/ Angel 2.11 "Redefinition"/ Buffy 5.14 "Crush"

  • NOTE: Darla makes repeated appearances in Angel throughout seasons 2-4. The above episodes are the most pertinent to cross-overs.

In the season finale of Angel ("To Shanshu in L.A."), Darla is resurrected (as a human, not a vampire) by Wolfram & Hart. She was last seen being staked by Angel while trying to kill Buffy (Buffy 1.7 "Angel").

Past Exposition: Both "Fool for Love" and "Darla" explore the pasts of Angel (Angelus), Darla, Spike and Drusilla when they rampaged over Europe. This includes when Darla and Spike were first made as well as the Boxer Rebellion and Angel receiving his soul.

Back in present day L.A., when it is discovered that Darla is slowly dying of syphilis, Angel tries to save her ("The Trial"). He is ultimately unsuccessful although Darla is prepared to die. However, unbeknowest to the both of them, Wolfram & Hart had hired Drusilla, who re-"sires" Darla. Drusilla was last seen in Buffy 2.22 "Becoming Part 2". The next few episodes of Angel ("Reunion" and "Redefinition") deal with Angel trying to stop Drusilla and the newly "vamped" Darla, which causes Angel to enter into a dark point in his life and the season. He ends up setting the two ablaze in a warehouse, although both do survive. Later on, in "Crush," Drusilla returns to Sunnydale to recruit Spike but is rebuffed because of his love for Buffy. This is Drusilla's last appearance outside flashbacks; she apparently does not rejoin Darla in L.A., for reasons unexplained. Also in this episode Spike throws out Harmony, who later turns up in L.A.

[edit] Buffy 5.17 "Forever"

In "Forever," Angel returns to Sunnydale to console Buffy following Joyce's death. Buffy plaintively suggests he stay forever but immediately retracts.

[edit] Angel 2.17 "Disharmony"

After being thrown out by Spike in "Crush," Harmony comes to L.A. and hooks up with Cordelia and the gang. Although her initial intentions are good, things fast go awry. Cordelia calls Willow (on camera) to ask about Harmony, and later Willow (off camera) calls Angel. Harmony eventually is told to leave L.A. or be staked.

[edit] Buffy's Death and Reunion Part Two

Episodes: Angel 2.22 "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb"/Angel 3.4 "Carpe Noctem"/Buffy 6.4 "Flooded"/ Buffy 6.5 "Life Serial"/ Angel 3.5 "Fredless"

In the second season finale of Angel, the gang returns from Pylea to find Willow waiting at the Hyperion Hotel. Angel senses that she brings bad news about Buffy (which turns out to be her death from the season five finale, "The Gift"). Later, at the end of "Carpe Noctem," Cordy announces that Willow has called to say that Buffy's alive. By this point, it had already been established on Buffy that the two of them were going to meet somewhere between Sunnydale and L.A. (Angel had called off-camera). In the next episode for both series, Buffy and Angel come back and allude to their off-screen meeting. In "Life Serial," Buffy returns from meeting Angel, describing the meeting as "intense" and cryptically refers to the "past," but asks not to discuss the matter further. Likewise, in "Fredless," Angel also refuses to discuss it, but he indicates it did not go well and that Wes and Cordy's parody sketch of his relationship with Buffy - which he walks in on - "pretty much summed it up."

[edit] Return of Angelus and Faith Arc Part Two

Episodes: Angel 4.13 "Salvage"/ Angel 4.14 "Release"/ Angel 4.15 "Orpheus"/ Buffy 7.17 "Lies My Parents Told Me"/ Buffy 7.18 "Dirty Girls"

  • Note: Although the episode numbers seem out of sequence, they were aired at corresponding times.

In response to the return of Angel's darker side, Wesley breaks Faith out of prison and urges her to help them battle the Beast in addition to tracking down Angelus ("Salvage" and "Release"). Meanwhile in Sunnydale, Willow receives a call (off-screen) from Fred for help ("Lies My Parents Told Me"). Avoiding answering any questions from Buffy, she arrives in L.A. ("Orpheus") and helps restore Angel's soul. Because of the impending Apocalypse, Faith agrees to return back to Sunnydale with Willow (with Willow promising to "say 'Hi'" to Buffy for Angel). In "Dirty Girls," Faith rejoins the Scoobie gang and is in the show (Buffy)till the series' end.

[edit] Sunnydale Apocalypse

Episodes: Angel 4.22 "Home"/Buffy 7.21 "End of Days"/ Buffy 7.22 "Chosen"

Receiving information on the Sunnydale Apocalypse and a mysterious medallion from Wolfram & Hart, Angel rushes to Buffy, arriving just in time to prevent Caleb from killing her ("Home" and "End of Days"). Although she accepts the file and amulet, Buffy declines Angel's offer to fight by her side, saying he must be her backup "second front". They speak of the past and the future, saying respectively "I'm like cookie dough" and "I'm not getting any older."

[edit] Post-Buffy-verse

[edit] Angel 5.11: "Damage"

In Angel 5.11 "Damage", Andrew joins the team briefly as liaison to the Watcher's Council in the effort to find Dana.

[edit] Angel 5.20: "The Girl in Question"

In Angel 5.20 "The Girl in Question", Angel and Spike go to Italy to investigate Buffy's relationship with the Immortal. Andrew greets them upon their arrival and explains the situation to them. At the end, the two vampire rivals observe Buffy (not played by SMG) dancing with the Immortal across a crowded room.
