Buddy Wakefield

Buddy Wakefield is a spoken word poet, signed to Sage Francis' record label, Strange Famous Records. He has been praised for his explosive energy and captivating lyrics.

Buddy Wakefield was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was raised in Baytown, Texas. He currently resides in Seattle, Washington.

In 1999, Wakefield released his first album, A Stretch of Presence.

In 2001, Wakefield left his position as the executive assistant of a biomedical firm in Gig Harbor, Washington, to tour the country as a poet.

Wakefield set up and manages The Bullhorn Collective, a talent agency which consists of many high ranking Slam Poets.

2004 saw the release of Wakefield's book, Some They Can't Contain (The Wordsmith Press), consisting mostly of a collection of performance pieces.

In 2004 and 2005, he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship title, becoming the only person to win the title twice[1].

In 2006, Wakefield signed to Strange Famous Records and released his second album, Run On Anything. He was also invited by folk singer Ani Difranco to perform as a special guest on several of her fall tour dates that year.

He has participated on Slam teams from Long Beach, California, and in 2006 won Seattle's Grand Slam to earn a spot on Seattle's semi-finalist team at the National Poetry Slam. He has shared stages with many notable poets, including Derrick Brown, Saul Williams, Sage Francis, Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Utah Phillips

Fran Varian's Grandmother appeared in the spring 2002 issue of Lodestar Quarterly, and also appears on Run On Anything.

Convenience Stores appeared in the June 2003 Cobalt Reading Series from Poetry Superhighway.
