William Carter, known as Buddy Carter was the son of Billy Carter and nephew of Jimmy Carter. He wrote a biography of his father titled Billy Carter: A Journey Through the Shadows (ISBN 1-56352-553-4).

Aside from his family ties, Carter has forged a career of his own in politics. He served as Mayor of Pooler, Georgia from 1996-2004 and is currently a Georgia State Representative. Currently he serves as the Secretary of the Health & Human Services Committee, and on Economic Development and Industrial Relations. He is also a full time pharmacist.
