The Buckinghamshire Building Society was founded in 1907 in Chalfont St. Giles. Its logo is the Buckinghamshire swan. Over its first century, it established a strong local presence in the mortgage and savings market, having reached an asset base of £100m by 2003.
However, by January 2007, the society was forced to restrict the opening of new savings accounts.
