Talk:Brynjar Gunnarsson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The article's name needs to be changed, and I don't know how to do that. The player's name is Brynjar Björn Gunnarsson, not Brynjar Gunnarsson. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nátthrafn (talk • contribs) 21:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not too knowledgable about Icelandic names; I only know that the surname is the father's name with "son" or "dottir" appended. Is the middle name used in the same way as English middle names? If so, the article should remain under the current name, but with the middle name added to the article's text - which you've already done. Could you explain why you think the article name itself needs to be changed? Robwingfield (talk) 21:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've just created a redirect at Brynjar Björn Gunnarsson for the time being... Robwingfield (talk) 22:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

- Hmm...alright, yeah since this is the English one, you should go with skipping the middle name in the title. I'm Icelandic, and in the Icelandic Wiki we'd have the full name, Björn included. As I understand it, yes middle names are used in the same way as in English. But they're more used and talked about than in English speaking countries. Usually one knows middle names of people, and they're very often known by both first name and middle name. The player is here in Iceland always referred to as Brynjar Björn. Yeah, the last name means "Gunnar's son", as his dad's first name is Gunnar. --Nátthrafn 20:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

- Okay, on that basis, I think the article should be left where it is, as he's never referred to as Brynjar Björn... it's either Brynjar or even Bryn. Robwingfield (talk) 20:49, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
