Bryce Florie
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bryce Bettancourt Florie (b. May 21, 1970, Charleston, South Carolina) was mainly a middle-relief pitcher from 1994 to 2001.
Florie pitched for four teams, the San Diego Padres (1994-1996), the Milwaukee Brewers (1996-1997), the Detroit Tigers (1998-1999), and the Boston Red Sox (1999-2001), and finished his career with a 20-24 record and two saves.
Florie is remembered for suffering a horrendous facial injury that occurred on September 8, 2000 in Fenway Park. The Yankees' Ryan Thompson hit a line drive off Florie's face, causing multiple broken bones and eye damage. Florie made a miraculous comeback, pitching in seven games in 2001, but was released by the Red Sox in mid-season.
