Bryant Antoine Westbrook (born December 19, 1974) was an American football player. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and played strong safety and cornerback. He was well known for his hard-and sometimes late-hits on players that drew "uneccesary roughness" calls.
[edit] The Play
Westbrook was known for a moment in a rivalry game against Texas A&M where he landed a devestating hit on Aggies running back Leeland McElroy. It caused Brad Nessler to yell "Holy mackerel! Whoo!" and Westbrook looked down to check on McElroy and he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The call was questionable and the broadcast did not agree with the poor officiating and one said "shoot the official" because Westbrook did not look he was taunting McElroy.
[edit] NFL Career
He was drafted in the first round with the fifth pick by the Detroit Lions and later went to the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys where he was very productive player until the Cowboys drafted Roy Williams in 2002 and Williams took his spot and the Cowboys released him. He hasn't attempted a comeback since the Cowboys released him.
