In Iraq, he served as a company commander in the 416th Civil Affairs Battalion, in charge of reconstruction in Nineveh Province and its capital of Mosul. In 2006, he planned to run for the United States House of Representatives in the Pennsylvania's 7th congressional district against Curt Weldon. However, after discussions with party officials, Lentz decided to run for the State House instead of making a run at Congress. [1]

He defeated incumbent Tom Gannon with 51% of the vote.
