[edit] History

[edit] Tekken 3

Bryan is a kickboxer who was Lei Wulong's rival. Bryan was once a rogue police officer, but he died due to a failed attempt at double-crossing two gangs at once. However, Dr. Abel reanimated him as a cyborg, intending to use him to kill both Yoshimitsu and Doctor Boskonovitch, Abel's rival. Bryan still remembered his grudge against Lei.

[edit] Tekken 4

In Tekken 4, Bryan knew that his body was deteriorating, that he was near death. Upon learning that Abel has become a scientific advisor of Mishima Zaibatsu, he despised the Mishima Zaibatsu for taking Abel away from him, and Abel himself, for abandoning him. After competing in the tournament, Bryan confronted Dr. Abel, but he was only able to knock Abel down before falling unconscious. But Yoshimitsu saved Bryan and brought him to Dr. Boskonovitch, who believed that the key to disabling Abel's bio-weapon was contained within Bryan's body.

[edit] Tekken 5

As such, Bryan was to receive a new body, but the fifth King of Iron Fist tournament was announced too soon for Boskonovitch to complete the new body. Instead, Boskonovitch gave him a new perpetual energy generator. Upon learning this, Bryan attacked Boskonovitch and the Manji clan members assigned to guard him. Bryan entered Tekken 5 to test out the power generator. When Yoshimitsu heard this, he was infuriated and entered the fifth tournament to get revenge.

Bryan has been confirmed to appear in Tekken 6. In a trailer [1] he is shown using a shotgun as part of a combo game.

[edit] Game Endings

Tekken 3 Canon

Bryan is pursued by the Tekken Force. He knocks over a garbage can as he runs. He is eventually cornered in an alley way and the soldiers point their guns towards him. Bryan shields his eyes from the light. He charges at the soldiers who are forced to bring a tank in for reinforcements. The tank shoots a shell into the alley, but Bryan rushes through the fire and onto the tank itself. The pilot flees as Bryan lifts the turret and swings it around. He throws it in the direction of the fleeing Tekken Force and it explodes. He laughs maniacally.

Tekken Tag Tournament Not Canon

Bryan walks along the streets of Hong Kong. Then, Interpol detective Lei Wulong rushes up to him and levels his gun at him. As Bryan turns and approaches Lei, Lei opens fire on Bryan. He shrugs the onslaught of bullets off harmlessly before cracking his neck. Lei is stunned as Bryan suddenly rushes him and unleashes a vicious uppercut...

Tekken 4 Canon

Bryan asks for Dr. Abel's help in restoring himself, but Bryan eventually ends up attacking him before he himself loses consciousness. He wakes up in a laboratory. Doctor Boskonovitch arrives to explain that Yoshimitsu saved his life whilst he was robbing the Mishima Zaibatsu. Yoshimitsu nods in Bryan's direction. Boskonovitch explains his body could be used to gather information on Dr. Abel's cyborg technology. Bryan agrees to Boskonovitch's offer of a new body with a silent nod. Boskonovitch injects a sedative into Bryan and he loses consciousness.

Tekken 5

Bryan is walking through a forest with a large chain gun. He hears something and uses his enhanced vision to see through the trees and Yoshimitsu's cloak. Bryan opens fire and misses his target. Yoshimitsu attacks Bryan from behind and de-cloaks mid-air. He is shot in mid-air by a pistol held by Bryan. He is shot several more times before he hits the ground. Bryan stands over Yoshimitsu, smirking. He fires one last finishing shot, but as for whether or not Yoshimitsu is killed remains to be seen since the screen cuts to black as soon as the shot is fired.

[edit] Fighting Style

Bryan uses a kickboxing style similar to Bruce Irvin. This is probably due to Bryan becoming Bruce's "replacement" for Tekken 3. Bryan shares many of Bruce's attacks such as Slash Kick, Side Step Elbow, and Bruce Special. In terms of speed and power, he is mid-high range. A lot of Bryan's attacks are simple combos of 3-6 hits that require few directional inputs and twin-buttons. Bryan has few low attacks when compared to characters like Marshall Law, Lei, and Lee. His other disadvantages are his two ten-hit combos, which start off slow and have difficult timing, similar to his Run Like Hell/Run For Cover attack.

Though details are still sketchy, a newly released trailer for Tekken 6 shows Bryan using a shotgun as part of a juggle. The actual use of this weapon, including range and damage, remains to be seen.

[edit] Trivia

  • Namco, the game's creators, have confirmed in an interview with a British PS2 magazine that Bryan Fury is their homage to action films such as The Terminator. (Note the similarity between Bryan's appearance in the PS2 intro of Tekken Tag Tournament and the Cyberdyne scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day)
  • Bryan's cybernetic enhancements installed by Dr. Abel prior to his resurrection give him extreme super strength, inhuman durability, and robotic qualities. This is most aptly demonstrated in his Tekken 3 ending where he is immune to bullets, a direct hit from a tank shell, and lifts said tank's turret off and tosses it several hundred meters at what appears to be the Tekken Force. It appears he possessed his fighting style and skills before his death, however.
  • In Tekken 5, Bryan apparently does not remember Lei Wulong, as shown in their interlude when he asks Lei, "Who the hell are you?"
  • Bryan became Bruce's "replacement" for Tekken 3. They share similar moves (However, with Bruce's return in Tekken 5, many of the moves that they shared were differentiated), both of their names start with Br..., and both have five characters in their names. Another interesting thing is that Bryan shares one of Bruce's win animations in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament when he jabs twice and throws a roundhouse kick.
