[edit] Date of birth

The August 6, 1946 date of birth stays until a more compelling reason is given for its removal. It comes from his voter registration record, filed with with the Board of Elections in the City of New York. It is also from Who's Who in U.S. Writers, Editors & Poets: A Biographical Directory (2nd ed., 1988). An article by Camille Paglia in the Post-Standard (Syracuse, New York), dated Nov. 2, 1963, names him as a senior at Nottingham High School. Benderson, in previous comments on the article to my discussion page (qv), did not claim that the date of birth was incorrect.

Dates of birth are standard for biographical profiles in encyclopedias. If the subject believes the date to be incorrect, he can supply evidence for the correct date. But the subject is not the final arbiter of whether his profile contains his date of birth, nor is the original author of the article.
