Bruxelles-Central / Brussel-Centraal (Brussels Central) is a railway station in Brussels, the capital city of Belgium. Inaugurated in 1952 as part of the North-South Junction project to connect the main railway lines in Brussels, it lies midway between the former termini Bruxelles-Midi / Brussel-Zuid and Bruxelles-Nord / Brussel-Noord.
The railway station has six tracks, served by three island platforms.
The railway station is located within the quadrilateral designated by the "Boulevard de l'Impératrice", "Rue de l'Infante Isabelle", "Kantersteen" and "Rue de la Putterie" and it has several entrances all around this quadrilateral. Whereas the platforms lie underground, the hall of the train station is on street level. The metro station is all underground, located under the "Marché au bois".
Adjacent to the railway station, connected by a long pedestrian tunnel, there is also a station on the Brussels Metro system, called Gare Centrale - Centraal Station. This station was first opened as a premetro station on 17 December 1969 on the tramway section between De Brouckère and Schuman. This premetro station was upgraded to full metro status on 20 September 1976 and today lies on the joint section of lines 1A and 1B that cross Brussels from east to west.
