[edit] 2004 US House Campaign

In 2004, he ran as a Libertarian in the Second Congressional District of Washington state against Democratic incumbent Rick Larsen and Republican challenger Suzanne Sinclair. Guthrie received 3% of the 2004 general election vote, far below Larsen's 64%.

[edit] 2006 US Senate Campaign

Guthrie's 2006 campaign is for the United States Senate seat currently held by Democratic incumbent Maria Cantwell. He will be on the General Election ballot along with challengers Republican Mike McGavick, the Green Party's Aaron Dixon and independent candidate, Robin Adair. His political opinions include opposition to the Iraq war, opposition to portions of the USA PATRIOT Act, and defense of marriage equality.

On October 1, The Seattle Times reported that Guthrie will loan his campaign a substantial part of his life savings - nearly $1.2 million. [1] The loan was an attempt to meet the fundraising requirement for inclusion in KING-TV's debate among the candidates. Guthrie participated in the October 17, 2006, debate alongside Cantwell and McGavick. Dixon was barred entry.
