[edit] Name

Does the name Bronski Beat have anything to do with Jan Bronski in The Tin Drum?

[edit] Writing Credits

Does anybody have any information on who the writers behind Bronski Beat were? My sleeve notes for The Age of Consent say Somerville/Cole/Bronski - I presume Somerville and Bronski refer to Jimmy and Steve, respectively, but who was Cole? As I doubted it would be Richard Coles who later joined with Somerville to form the Communards (both for the typo and for the fact that he was partially blamed for splitting the group up), I tried looking for other sources. My iTunes lists the tracks as being written by Lloyd Cole (with Somerville and Bronski) - searching the web also reveals websites where Bronski Beat are listed as singing songs by Lloyd Cole. Does anybody know whether the Cole in the writing credits is indeed Lloyd Cole as I can't find any references to this anywhere. 131.111.8.96 15:56, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I was also puzzeled by that when adding info to the article. See AMG page there you have "Bronski Beat, Jimmy" and "Cole, Forrest, Somerville" (Lloyd Cole/Susann Forrest/Jimmy Somerville) as writers. Lloyd Cole is possibly [1] fronting the Commotions - is it the same guy? On Age of Consent [Bonus Tracks] [2] you see "Cole, Forrest, Somerville" and "Pete Bellotte/Lawrence Cole/Forrest, S./Giorgio Moroder/Somerville, J./Donna Summer" - Lawrence Cole ... go figure that. Could they (Cole, Forrest, Lawrence Cole/Forrest, S) be pseudonyms? Well it's pretty weird. feydey 20:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
And is then Larry Steinbachek = Lloyd Cole/Lawrence Cole? feydey 20:48, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Lloyd Cole is of course the frontman for the Commotions as well as being a solo artist these days - he's of the correct era and some of his lyrics seem to have what could be deemed a homosexual slant on them, so he might have been sympathetic to the Bronski Beat cause. However, I'm struggling to find anything solid to back this up with so it's still nothing more than conjecture. Housecat 15:26, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Interested by this i went and checked a few CDs and 12"s I have. All the credits I see are Somerville/Stienbachek/Bronski (Save for the cover version therein). I checked both my CD version of Age Of Consent, as well as the 12" re-issue of Smalltown Boy (from the time of the original release of the Jimmi Somerville Greatest hits). I'm pretty confident that these are the same credits from the original 12" singles (I have them in a box somewhere). My guess is that some later issue (non-uk?) has got the credits mixed up with The Communards and Richard Cole. 80.177.0.240 08:29, 26 February 2007 (UTC)DanAbel

[edit] Tell me Why

There has been a popular mid-90's remix of this track for a while, it seems to be a mash of "Smalltown Boy" / "Why", but it wasn't the Supermode version, the beat wasn't the same and it was slower. Does anyone know the track?
