The brown smooth-hound, Mustelus henlei, is a houndshark of the family Triakidae, found on the continental shelves of the subtropical eastern Pacific from northern California to the Gulf of California, Ecuador and Peru between latitudes 43° N and 18° S, from the surface to 200 m. Its length is up to 1 m.
The brown smooth-hound feeds on crabs, ghost shrimps, mantis shrimps, isopods, squids, polychaete worms, tunicates and small bony fishes. It is readily kept in captivity. It is utilized for human consumption, marketed fresh, smoked and frozen.
Reproduction is viviparous, with 3 to 5 pups in a litter and length at birth between 19 and 21 cm.
