Brown Opera Productions
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Co-founded in 2005 by Brown University students Michael Hadley '07 and Clara Schuhmacher '06, Brown Opera Productions is dedicated to the promotion and performance of classical vocal music both on campus and in the greater Providence community and is a space for singers and musicians to collaborate on exciting classical performance projects. They produce a full-length opera every spring, and throughout the year produce concerts of classical vocal music on campus and in local hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. As the name implies, the group is composed of Brown students, who also work with RISD students at times.
BOP joins with Opera Providence and the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Foundation in bringing opera to the city of Providence.
In April of 2006, BOP premiered its first show, The Medium, written by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1946. [1]
The inaugural BOP board consisted of the positions of Chair, Producer, Treasurer, Concert and Community Service Chair, Secretary, Publicity Manager, and Webmaster and Archives Manager, filled by Michael Hadley, Clara Schuhmacher, Kate Tsunoda, Christie Gibson, Emily Dunne (RISD), Kathryn Wallem, and Jonathan Ichikawa, respectively. In May of 2006, the BOP constitution was amended, and the current Board now consists of the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Business Manager, Campus Events Manager, Community Outreach Manager (2), Secretary, and at-large members (2), filled by Michael Hadley, Kathryn Wallem, Nicholas Leiserson, Zander Ebin, Jordan Elkind and Hannah Lewis, Christie Gibson, and Emily Dunne (RISD) and Clara Schuhmacher, respectively.
BOP does not charge admission for its performances but depends on individual donations.
