[edit] Plot Summary
The third book in the Odd Thomas Series. (Odd Thomas, Forever Odd, Brother Odd.)
In St. Bartholomew's Monastery, in the Sierra mountains, Odd Thomas finds an escape. His life lacking simplicity, and with a great guilt on his shoulders, Odd Thomas turns to St. Bartholomew's for guidance and a more simple life. For as long as he can remember, Odd has had a sixth sense. This attributed him many abilities, one of which is the sight of ghosts. Often these spirits ask him to help them in the vengeance of their deaths, but even more often, they wont leave this world behind for some shame or another. Odd Thomas sought happiness and respite in this small, isolated Monastery, to get away from the disasters and suffering he must face as part of his gift, or possibly, curse. He occupied a guests quarter for seven months, before a his old life returned in the form of a bodach; a dark, shadelike apparition that apparently feeds from the terror and suffering of humanity in great scale. These creatures signal horrible tragedies and catastrophes on, around, or caused by the people they follow. Only Odd can see them. Thomas quickly discovers one of the brothers facedown in the dark, and must run when he is attacked from the back, not getting a look at his assailant. When he returns the body is gone. In the next few hours, bodachs arrive in enormous numbers, crawling and feeding off of the unknowing children in the Monastery's school, and Odd investigates his sole suspect; Rodion Romanovich. While traversing from the Monastery to the children's school, Odd Thomas is confronted by predators in the snowstorm, and he runs for his life, barely making it. Now Odd must find the missing Brother Timothy, and his clues are few, his resources many, and to collect the Brothers to protect the children, he must travel back out into the storm.
