Brother Mutant was a fictional character who appeared in Marvel Comics' Exiles comic book and was created by Tony Bedard and Paul Pelletier.

Brother Mutant came from an alternate timeline from the real Marvel Universe. He came into being when an attack by the Brotherhood of Mutants on Wolverine ended when the Scarlet Warlock (an alternate verison of the Scarlet Witch) used his hex powers to transfer Wolverine's Adamantium skeleton into Magneto's body. The hex backfired and combined Wolverine, Magneto, Scarlet Warlock, Quicksilver and Mesmero into a single entity, with the powers of all five. Brother Mutant was never meant to exist and his continued existence proved to be a threat to the entire multiverse.

The Timerbreakers, a race of buglike aliens who were attempting to fix the problems with the multiverse (which they themselves had caused), had been gathering beings to help restore the timelines. They had abandoned their most recent team of Exiles in favor of a new team and had sent them to confront Brother Mutant. This team had been comprised entirely of Wolverines from alternate timelines. When this team came under the hypnotic power of Brother Mutant, they continued sending teams of Wolverines, each proving to be as ineffective against Brother Mutant as the previous one. The last team of Wolverines was comprised of Patch, a Zombie Wolverine, Albert & Elsie-Dee, Weapon X, a young James Howlett (Wolverine as he had just gained his mutant powers) and Logan, from Days of Future Past. When most of the team fell before Brother Mutant's hypnotically controlled Wolverines, Logan and James Howlett were able to contact the Timebreakers and convinced them to gather the previous team of Exiles to help restore the timeline.

Logan and James brought the Exiles to Brother Mutant's world as Brother Mutant was beginning to lead his Wolverine army to another city in an attempt to wipe out the human race. Elise-Dee and the Zombie Wolverine made a suicide attack against Brother Mutant and when that didn't work, Logan made an attempted kiling blow against Brother Mutant as well and though effective, he was destroyed in the process. Seeing Logan killed proved to be too much for young James, who slipped into a berserker rage and at last killed Brother Mutant.

With the death of Brother Mutant, the timeline was properly restored.
