Brookston is a very small settlement in St. Louis County, Minnesota, along the St. Louis River opposite the mouth of the Artichoke River. The population was 98 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 98 people, 38 households, and 28 families residing in the city. The population density was 67.6/km² (175.9/mi²). There were 38 housing units at an average density of 26.2/km² (68.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 82.65% White, 1.02% African American, 8.16% Native American, and 8.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.
There were 38 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 12.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 117.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,917, and the median income for a family was $40,625. Males had a median income of $40,625 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,009. There were no families and 5.3% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 23.5% of those over 64.
