Brogan is a book published in March of 2006 from Iowa author Thomas Brogan. Brogan takes a step back and looks at life in a very different way. It is a collection of blogs from "Brogan's Blog", along with many other thoughts, idea, rants and observations. Brogan is a surname in Ireland. Coming from the original O'Brogain before becoming anglised. and can be traced back to Saint Brogan, St. Patrick's scribe and nephew.

The name has many original meanings of either sorrowful or sharp faced.

The term brog is the gaelic word for shoe or boots hence modern work shoes and boots still being referred to as brogs.

Someone with a heavy Irish accent is also said to speak with a brogue.

Brogan is also a term generally applied to any heavy, ankle-high shoe or boot, more specifically, any such boot worn by a soldier in the American Civil War. The standard model of brogan worn by a soldier was the Model 1859 Jefferson, a square-toed model with four eyelets and leather laces.The brogan also fell apart easily after becoming wet.

Brogan is also an incoherent expression stated by a character in the first game in the Age Of Empires series. They are actually saying "roggan."
