Broadgreen Hospital

The Broadgreen Hospital Thomas Drive, Broadgreen, Liverpool, England, is a large hospital. It is part of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trusts. Situated on the outskirts of the city the hospital was first established as a centre for the treatment of tuberculosis. However, following the bombing of the city centre hospitals during World War II, Broadgreen was expanded into a significant District General Hospital.
According the to NHS Trust website, Broadgreen Hospital has 338 beds. It is the main base for the department of medicine for the elderly and rehabilitation, for dermatology, and for routine orthopaedic and general surgery. There is also a renal dialysis unit on the site.
In January 1996 a new eighty bedded Elderly Rehabilitation Unit was opened at Broadgreen.
Bill Shankly, the former Liverpool Football Club manager, died at the hospital in September 1981 after suffering a heart attack.
