[edit] Years Active

Bright Eyes has been active since before 1998, I believe.

[edit] Bright Eyes live

Should we mention at all that Oberst gets so drunk by the end of most concerts that he forgets words stumbles around etc? Obviously we would have to find an official source, but just about anyone thats been to a concert of his (within the last year for sure) can verify :)

If you would really like to include it, you could probably check out some concert reviews for a source. Problem is, musicians getting drunk and acting stupid on stage is not exactly unique and most reviewers probably wouldn't think to mention it. Elvrum 19:16, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
If Oberst hates Texas he should not play shows there.

OCT. 22, 2005 I saw Bright Eyes Live at the Santa Barbara Bowl. He was not drunk in fact he was only drinking tea. It was one of the most amazing concerts i have ever been to in my life. 205.167.120.201 16:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Jesse Bradford

[edit] "Protest" section?

I've just beefed up the Clear Channel stuff a little, and wondered whether there might be an argument for seperating out things that could broadly be termed as "protest" activities, which would include Clear Channel, MoveOn.org tour, "When The President Talks To God", etc. That "Recent Years" section is just starting to look a little cluttered. --Wastekiller 02:29, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

That's not a bad idea. All this article is so far is a mini-biography without much information about the music, critical reactions, etc. It needs more sections and "Activism" or the like wouldn't be a bad start. Elvrum 03:23, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not emo?

Bright Eyes isn't an emo band? I'm pretty sure all of his songs are depressing(for some reason i love them, though :p)...but i guess that doesn't count as emo?

No, being depressing does not count as emo.--149.167.194.128 11:11, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

I reckon there emo, i mean the guy even sounds like hes crying while he sings

Bright Eyes is not Emo because he is not hardcore. He may be emotional, but that is different. Trebor 22:19, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

"Emo" in this sense doesn't really mean "emotional music," I mean hell most music is emotional; rather, we mean a genre defined by the likes of AFI and My Chemical Romance. If you think Bright Eyes sounds anything like those two, well, listen again a few times :P - anon.

If you think MCR and AFI define emo, I suggest you listen to more actual emo bands - anon

MCR are these days the archetypal 'emo' band, AFI I would consider to be more of a goth-punk band. Either way, Bright Eyes is not emo, even with the fringe, lol. It is merely lo-fi folk sort of stuff.

Bright Eyes isn't emo?! Wow! I agree with that one kid! He really does sound like he's crying when he's singing! But I guess it's cool??? But why isn't there theme emo? He's sounds depressed in his songs, but w/e!

Songs with depressed "sounds" in them aren't always "emo". To put music into "lable" boxes is to take away from the intended art and should be a crime. 205.240.78.20 04:28, 17 November 2006 (UTC) Typhoid Orchid

Even if I did count "Emo" as a legitimate genre of music, anyone who has really listened to Bright Eyes could hardly call his music emotional hardcore. Now, I will not contest that Oberst himself is emo, because he is, but I disagree that his music is. Adverse Entropy 01:03, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Want emo? Check out Blue October... --72.94.165.170 02:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

i dont think emo is his genre. i think indie or folk or indie folk is alot better than emo. Emo wouldnt do bright eyes justice. if someone who never heard bright eyes before asked you for bright eyes music stlye and you were to tell them emo, they would get a distorted idea of the band. i think indie folk is a better genere discription. [edit] Factual check-ups

I pulled out the "This release was the first time that Bright Eyes and Saddle Creek had ever hired a publicist to bring the music to the attention of the media." from the part about Story in the Soil. Holiday Matinee was hired to work press for "Fevers and Mirrors" and the '99 release "Every Day and Every Night." It was also the publicist for The Faint and Cursive before Story in the Soil was released.

[edit] Personal Life

I'm a bit confused at the content of the Bright Eyes page on Wikipedia. Under Future Plans it states

"Conor has been married to Cait for nearly three years. She is currently eighteen. They live in Omaha, NE, in his parents' basement, and have five puppies."

Aside from being an odd post (marrying a 15 year old and all), the Conor Oberst Wiki page states (under Trivia) that Conor is "Is romantically involved with fellow Saddle Creek artist Maria Taylor."

Can somebody clear this up? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.179.210.230 (talk) 18:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC).

Sorry if this sounds mean, but, are you kidding me?

That's exactly what I said. It's clearly false. Don't be stupid, people. Dieter Weber 23:58, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it's obviously vandalism.Notahippie76 21:48, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Music videos?

Would a list of music videos be relevant to this article? I came here looking for a list of music videos he's made for songs, but didn't find any. I suppose a quick google search would work too, but I think it'd be helpful. 71.59.157.40 01:10, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
